May 5-6, 2007 Kentucky Gypsy Horse Classic Lexington, Kentucky On May 5th & 6th the AGHBA was represented at the Kentucky Gypsy Horse Classic which was held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY. AGHBA Executive Director, Lynn Strauman, along with Glen and Robin Clark drove down to the show from Northeast Ohio . Upon arrival we set up the Pop-up for the booth area. The show began bright and early on Saturday morning with over 45 gypsy horses in attendance. We were very pleased to find that a number of our AGHBA members were in attendance and came to the booth to introduce themselves. The classes moved along well until late in the afternoon when the remnants of the tornado that devastated Missouri hit our area with 20 mile an hour winds and lots of rain. Most participants continued to perform but the audience was rather thinned. The AGHBA sponsored the Overall High Point award, so as a part of our booth; we displayed the sculpture for all to see. Between the three of us we sold tickets, took applications for new membership and spread the good word about our organization. Sunday proved to be a better weather day and by the time the High Point Award was presented, the sun was shining. The High Point Award was earned and awarded to King Rocky, a lovely Drum Horse Stallion that performed impeccably during the entire event. King Rocky is owned by AGHBA member Kathryn Pears of Phippsburg, Maine . Kathryn was very pleased with the sculpture sponsored by the AGHBA. Other members in attendance that we met were; Mary Miller of Jewels of Mount Christie Gypsy Horses, Dave & Carol Dunbar of Chocolate Horse Farm, Lise McNamara of Blarney Stone Acres, Marsha Gulick of Hominy OK, Roberta (bobby) McIntyre of Nokesville, VA. And brand new members Diane and Donald Quay of Shadowhawke and Jeff Bartko of Black Forest Shires and Gypsy Horses. If I have missed anyone I sincerely apologize. I have attempted to recall this from memory only (no notes taken) and memory doesn't always serve me well. It seemed that a wonderful time was had by all ! We wish to thank the organizers of the show, Jackie Clark and Stacy Foncannon, for accepting our Class sponsorship and Overall High Point award donation to their show. Robin Clark |
